Exposing the FPA
The FPA Supports Decriminalisation of Abortions up to 12 Weeks
The following policy was adopted at the NZFPA Conference in May 1979
That the motion from the Medical Advisory Committee be endorsed by Conference:
“That the 19 doctors meeting as the Medical Advisory Committee of the NZFPA recognise that the provision of abortion services is an important bask-up measure in a comprehensive family planning programme.”
The FPA has wanted to commit abortions since 1977
In 1977 the following policy statement was issued by the NZFPA Conference with an overwhelming majority
A large majority of the meeting believed that the interests of the mother during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy outweigh those of the foetus and therefore support the principle that termination of pregnancy by a registered medical practitioner within the first twelve weeks of pregnancy should not be a legal offence.”
